Seven Year Presidential Reflexes

It's been awhile since I blogged. But I couldn't resist after seeing the President deliver his State of the Union address. It made me wonder:

If you took a reflex hammer and knocked W's knee, would it take seven years for his knee to kick?

It only took seven years for him to devote a few lines of speech to the millions without healthcare.
It only took seven years for him to discover that Americans need to cut oil consumption and address climate change.
It only too six years for him to return to AIDS and Africa. Welcome back AIDS and Africa, the GOP says.

Thank God there are two-term limits. Otherwise, it'd probably be 2014 before we started considering a phased withdrawal from Iraq. By then, half of the Iraq Study Group will be dead and GW will be educating us on why the Iraqis need to take more responsibility for their own government and include the Shias.

Wait, that sounds familiar, President Bush. We could have sworn we heard this eight years ago. Because he's educating us, America.

Other notes watching the big top:

- Dear Dick Cheney: don't think we didn't notice how slow you were to applaud when Bush started talking about equal opportunity for immigrants. That's the cool thing about having Nancy Pelosi sit next to him. She's always first to applaud issues that Cheney has no interest in. You could practically see his mind wandering to household chores. Immigration, blah, blah, blah, gotta throw Scooter Libby under the bus, oh crap, Nancy's clapping, better join in.

- Early polls are favorable. I theorize that they're favorable because if you take the Iraq and War on Terror section out, America could have sworn it was 1998. Nice job recycling, George's staff. Better late than never on discovering domestic policies. You guys sounded a little rusty though.

- Talk about terrible segues. Bush II might as well have said: we're going to trot out some celebs and inspirational human interest stories because we know you guys are missing Access Hollywood and Extra while I'm up here doing this State of the Union. And how does one get in the gallery at these things? Do you think they sit around and brainstorm which NBA player they want to meet? When was the last time Bush II watched an NBA game? Mutombo hasn't been a factor since the mid-90s. Another example of recycling.

Dear George, we loved the 90s too. Then you came along.

For a little elucidation, I suggest you take a look at this tag cloud of Bush II's most-used words during the speech: State of the Union Tag Cloud
